PAUL F. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP

HISTORY

Mr. Paul F. Brown loved music. He showed his love by supporting local music organizations such as the Baton Rouge Opera, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and the LSU School of Music. The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who demonstrate a love for music.

ELIGIBILITY 

  • Must be an incoming full-time freshman at the Louisiana State University School of Music

  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement: 3.0

  • Resident of Louisiana

This scholarship is by invitation only. Invitations will be sent by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.

AWARD

The award is a one-year scholarship, payable $1,500 per semester (fall and spring only) for two consecutive semesters, for a total award of $3,000.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Application

  • Academic transcript from previous semester

  • ACT/SAT score report

  • Academic resume

  • Letter of recommendation from a music teacher or someone that can attest to the applicant’s musical talents, aspirations and/or accomplishments

  • Personal Statement: The applicant’s personal statement should reflect their demonstrated love of music. The statement should be approximately 350 – 500 words in length and include the following:

    • List of instruments the applicant plays

    • List of high school musical activities and a description of involvement in each

    • List of music honors and achievements

    • The applicant’s most rewarding musical experience

    • The applicant’s career plans and goals for the future

    • The applicant’s reason for applying for this scholarship
