CLAUDE L. COCKERHAM, III CHARITABLE SCHOLARSHIP

HISTORY

The Claude L. Cockerham, III Charitable Fund was established to enable high school seniors to further their education in the criminal justice field. Mr. Cockerham, a dedicated supporter of the criminal justice system, has spent countless hours serving the Gonzales Police Department due to his passion for community service. Mr. Cockerham’s father was a World War II veteran, and this scholarship is structured to acknowledge military service. This is a scholarship for students who embrace community service and the criminal justice system as a means for enhancing quality of life and safety within communities.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be graduating from East Ascension High School in Gonzales, Louisiana

  • Must be pursuing a college education in criminal justice or plan to enlist in the United States Armed Forces

  • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement: 3.0

  • Must have participated in high school ROTC

  • Must be at least 17 years old

AWARD

The scholarship is a one-time award of $500. Applicants who are pursuing a career in criminal justice may use the award to attend an accredited law enforcement class of instruction, an educational endeavor/course of study, or to enroll in a college, university or other higher educational institution for undergraduate studies in the field of criminal justice. Applicants who have joined the United States Armed Forces must use the award for certifications, training, or any other post-secondary education.
